Welcome to the Yucatan. Comprising the states of Campeche, Yucatan and Quintana Roo, the Yucatan Peninsula is Mexico’s most popular tourist destination.
There’s a good reason for this. Quintana Roo is where you’ll find Mexico’s slice of the Caribbean Sea, and the entire limestone-rich peninsula is dotted with mystical cenotes or underground swimming holes.
Unfortunately, the Yucatan has become a bit too popular for its own good, and destinations like Cancun, Playa del Carmen and Tulum are suffering dire consequences of overtourism.
We spent 6 weeks road-tripping the peninsula and managed to find some incredible destinations outside of the typical trio. The beaches are undeniably beautiful, the islands are a postcard of tropical paradise and the gorgeous colonial cities and Mayan ruins top it off.
I haven’t gotten around to writing any articles about the Yucatan Peninsula yet (it’s coming in 2024, I promise!).
In the meantime, if you’re looking for my Yucatan tips, check out my Yucatan Peninsula Travel Guide Ebook.
You’ll find everything I know about Yucatan and Quintana Roo in this guide. If I do say so myself, it’s a fantastic and valuable book, with a ton of information spread over 140+ pages.
You can buy the book as a standalone guide, or if you’ve got a broader Mexico trip planned, it is included in my larger Mexico country guide.
