Seeing a sunset in Noosa
We are self-confessed sunset junkies, and most of our Friday nights in Noosa are spent watching the sun go down over the water, with a drink in hand. And we’re not the only ones! Head to any popular sunset spot in the area, and you’re likely to find tons of locals having picnics, a sunset swim or even just sitting in their cars unwinding from the day. Nature really does put on a special show for us every night. And the best thing? It’s free!
Where to watch the sunset in Noosa
It’s important to remember that because Noosa is on the east coast of Australia, you can’t just rock up at any beach and expect to see the sun slipping down below the horizon! But it does help that Noosa is orientated slightly north, so if you are in the know, you can find somewhere to see the sunset. So without further adieu, here are our favourite places to watch a sunset in Noosa!
Noosa Spit
This is our local sunset spot, and there’s not a week that goes by that we don’t pack a couple of drinks and snacks, lay down our picnic rug and end the day watching the sky light up. The Spit is the perfect setting for the sunset. You actually see the sun go down behind the horizon over the water, with the mountains of the Noosa Hinterland as a backdrop. There’s plenty of grass to sit down on, and if it’s a warm evening (pretty likely in summer!), you can even have a sunset swim.
Little Cove Beach
Little Cove is a beautiful beach any time of the day, but it is a really special place to see the sunset in Noosa. Being a little further round the coast than Noosa Main Beach, you can see the sun go down behind the mountains. We like to head to the furthest part of the beach (towards the national park), and climb up the rocks to get a good vantage point.
Mount Tinbeerwah
If you have your own wheels, our personal favourite spot for sunset in Noosa is Mount Tinbeerwah, just outside of Tewantin. It’s about a 15-minute drive from Hastings Street, and you can drive right to the summit. Meaning it is just a short walk to the viewpoint, and there are stunning 360-degree views of the coast, and into the hinterland. You won’t see the sunset over the water or coast here. But it’s pretty special to see the mountains and lush hinterland be bathed in golden light. Pack a picnic (because what’s a sunset without cheese or wine?), and find a spot on the rocks to sit and enjoy. I wouldn’t recommend going all the way to the top, as the views are better lower down facing the mountains.
Noosa River
Sunset by the river in Noosaville is another really popular option. Depending on the time of the year, you can usually see the sun going down behind the mountains in the distance, creating some beautiful reflections on the river. To add to the atmosphere, if you head down to the front of the Noosa Boathouse on Friday, Saturday or Sunday afternoon you can enjoy your sunset with live music! Do as the locals do, and pack a rug or chair, a picnic, and a bottle of wine and enjoy.
Laguna Lookout
To see a sunset in Noosa from above, head to Laguna Lookout. This popular spot is above Hastings Street and has great views of the maze of waterways, mountains, and coastline that makes up Noosa. It’s a short drive from the Hastings Street area or a steep walk (around 1.2km) upstairs from Hastings Street.

In our opinion, we couldnât think of a better way to end the day than watching the sun go down and light up the sky in a beautiful place. It’s such a perfect time to relax, and reflect on the day and I am always in awe of the colours that nature can produce.
